Naturalistic-style planting for a small city garden, Twickenham

The brief for this small city garden in Twickenham was to develop the main terrace with two seating areas and space for a small greenhouse, framed by interesting and colourful planting borders and maximising the given space ย  to create a seamless indoor outdoor experience.ย

ย

We designed wildlife friendly planting which creates interest throughout the year using a careful choice of herbaceous perennials.

ย

While the house was undergoing an internal refurbishment, the clients desire was to change the layout of the garden to meet their requirements of planting rich borders, supporting wildlife and adding beauty.

The garden develops on 2 levels, determined by the elevated ground floor level of the house. The garden backs on to a community park land and is overshadowed by large trees.

Raised planters frame the ย elevated terrace and provide focal points from the house.

The terrace is constructed using Millboard decking including steps connecting the two layers.

The client also wanted a space for a table tennis, which is located on the lower level, paved with a small clay brick paverย laid on edge, which doubles up as additional seating and entertaining space when the table tennis is not in use.

A gravel path leads through the planting borders which also contain a water feature and allow for a space to sit.

The main materials in this garden used are Corten Steel, Scottish pebbles, belgian clay brick pavers and composite decking.ย
