Plant lover’s garden, East Molesey – Featured in HouseBeautiful August 2023

The layout of this traditional medium sized back garden was a central lawn surrounded with planting borders and Bamboo planting to screen off a trampoline and garden sheds. Because the children had grown up the owner wanted firstly a garden which would accommodate for instance different seating areas and a new garden studio with integrated storage space.

In addition,  the main focus was on how to generate a generous enough planting border in this south facing garden without loosing the lawn. The new design connects the main house with the garden studio with a gravel path through the main planting border of the garden which borders the terrace lengthwise across the whole width of the garden.

The visitor is invited to immerse themselves into the planting border which is full of wildlife friendly herbaceous perennial planting combined with grasses and smaller roses.

The gravel path leads to a small seating area opposite a lawn. Further down the path leads towards the paved area in front of the garden studio. The material used for the paved terraces is a charcoal, Belgian clay paver.
